BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A fire caused extensive damage to a home in Binghamton.

Officials responded to the scene at 14 Livingston Street around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
They say there was heavy smoke and fire coming from the first floor. The flames also spread to the second floor and attic and melted the side of the house next door.

Nobody was injured during the fire, but crews say they rescued a small dog that was in critical condition.

"We initiated resuscitation measures on the dog and got him back fairly stable, initiated an IV on him, gave him some food and he's at the veterinarians hopefully to make a full recovery," said Binghamton firefighter Kevin Rice.

The cause is still under investigation, but firefighters believe it started as a kitchen fire.
