LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- New Yorkers are weighing in on the issue of legalizing mixed martial arts in New York State.

According to a Siena Research Institute poll, 38 percent of New Yorkers think MMA should be allowed in our state, while 52 percent think it shouldn't be allowed. MMA is legal in most states.

Opponents say they don't want the sport to become legal in New York because they say it's dangerous, even barbaric, and that we should not allow such a violent sport to be practiced in New York.

Those in favor of legalizing the sport say it's a highly regulated industry that would bring money from major events into places like New York City.
