ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Rome police crack down on synthetic drugs just days after city lawmakers adopted an ordinance banning their sale and possession.

Police said they discovered a large amount of synthetic drugs for sale at the Exit 420 store on North James Street Friday. The owner, Muhammad Ali, 22, is charged with both possession and sale of synthetic drugs.

Also Friday, police charged the owner of the Country Farms store on Floyd Avenue after he was found to have a box containing the drugs. Vipul Patel, 39, is charged with possession of synthetic drugs.

Police said they plan to aggressively enforce the new ordinance, which was passed on Wednesday.
