ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- This morning's snowfall across Central New York may not have been what people wanted to see, but YNN meteorologists say the Syracuse area typically averages about four inches of total snow for the month of April. So far, less than an inch has been recorded in Syracuse, although totals reached up to seven inches in some surrounding areas.

While many people are surprised to see any snow at all, what's really surprising is the transition from summer-like to winter-like conditions in just a few days.

"It's just that fact that we did see that warmth, it really is throwing the perspective way off. That, today's weather although it is cold, it is snowy for some of us, and we don't see it all too often during the month of April, it is much more common then say the incredible warmth that we saw, the sustained warmth during the month of March and even in to portions of this month," said YNN meteorologist Dan Russell.

The recent snowfall is attributed to a weather system that moved its way up the east coast.
