ITHACA, N.Y. -- Design students at Cornell University are prepping for one of largest student-run events of the year: The annual Cornell Fashion Collective runway show.

This Saturday, about 45 students will show off collections they've been working on for months. Some unique designs this year include a gown made of electrical cables and copper wire and a hooded body suit embedded with insecticides at the molecular level, meant to keep malaria-spreading mosquitoes away.

About 3,000 people are expected to attend the event and designers say it's bound to be a good time.

"It's really fun. There are over 150 models, so chances are you'll see someone you know on stage. And it's only about two and a half hours, so you can still do other things afterward. But it's just a really fun event," said Katie Elks, an apparel design senior.

The show starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday in Cornell's Barton Hall. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.
