NEW YORK -- Congressional redistricting heads to the highest court in the state today. State Senate Democrats are challenging the creation of a 63rd Senate District.

The Court of Appeals expedited the case after a hearing last Thursday. A judge says it was "disturbing" that the Senate's Republican majority used two different formulas to establish voting boundaries in parts of the state. Critics said the lines were unfairly drawn to help protect their political power.

The new 63rd District would be west and south of Albany.
