UNITED STATES -- Newt Gingrich is expected to officially end his campaign today for the Republican presidential nomination. The former House Speaker had said he would leave the race after poor showings in last week's primaries.
In a video posted on his website, Gingrich thanked his supporters. He also said he will work hard to prevent President Obama from winning re-election. Gingrich did not mention endorsing Mitt Romney.
Gingrich won two contests in the race: South Carolina and Georgia.
Nearly 180,000 people donated to his campaign, which is reportedly millions of dollars in debt.
