FORT DRUM -- Fort Drum will be one of six posts across the country to take part in a six-month test allowing women to take more jobs closer to front lines.

The Associated Press says the Pentagon's change of policy is the result of experiences of recent wars and to give women the chance to compete for jobs that were previously considered too dangerous.

Among the jobs that will be open for women are tank and armored troop carrier mechanics, artillery radar operator and rocket launcher crew member.

Posts in Colorado, Texas, Kentucky and Hawaii are also testing the change.
