CENTRAL NEW YORK -- It's an opportunity most homeowners wouldn't pass up. Updates being made to windows, insulation, heating and cooling systems.
"Homeowners are going to ese a drastic reduction in their power bill and that will be anywhere from 50 to 75 percent," GreenHomes America CNY Branch Manager, John Scipione.
The costs for such energy efficient upgrades can be upwards of $50 thousand , but with grant money received from NYSERDA, nine homeowners in the area will get up to 80 percent of that cost covered.
"We're going to be selecting homes that fit the criteria. Criteria meaning we're looking for colonial homes, ranch homes, split level homes,"said Scipione.
A certified building analyst will com out to your home, do a two hour test, but even if your home doesn't qualify for the retrofit, GreenHomes America will make you aware of any other programs offered throughout the state. The homes picked will be completed by the end of the year.
