It's the first mainstream film focusing on the sport of lacrosse, and it makes its world premiere tonight in Syracuse. The film “Crooked Arrows,” which includes a few Central New York natives, will hit select theaters May 18th and opens nationally on June 1st. Our Brad Vivacqua has a preview.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- There will be a Hollywood-like atmosphere in downtown Syracuse later on tonight. A red carpet event is scheduled for 7 p.m., followed by the premiere of the highly anticipated “Crooked Arrows” film.

The movie tells the story of a Native American lacrosse team that gets back to its roots while moving ahead to the state championship game. The movie includes cast and crew members from the Six Nations here in Central New York.

It highlights the origins of lacrosse as being given to the Iroquois by the Creator and explores modern life on the reservation in a fun, family-friendly way.

As the game of lacrosse continues to grow in popularity with today's youth, the movie is expected to be a strong draw at the box office, especially in the northeast.

Tonight's red carpet ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. at the Crouse Hinds Theatre at the Oncenter with the movie premiere following at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $50 to $150 and are available through Ticketmaster and the Oncenter Box Office.
