ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. -- A St. Lawrence County family of three is homeless after fire destroyed their house in the Town of Macomb Thursday morning.

No one was inside the Lead Mine Road house when the fire broke out. A DPW crew in the area called in the fire.

The house was a total loss and a nearby garage and car were also destroyed, but not all was lost.

“A large barn that had horses in it was salvaged. There was no damage to that. Firefighters protected that pretty well,” said Joe Lacks, St. Lawrence County Fire Investigator.

No people were hurt and the family dog was saved, but an older neighborhood dog was found dead near the front of the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
