CENTRAL NEW YORK -- Laurie Fine is filing a lawsuit against ESPN and two of its employees. The wife of former Syracuse University assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine announced the lawsuit this morning.

The libel suit centers around ESPN's coverage of sexual abuse allegations by former ball boy Bobby Davis against Bernie Fine. In particular, it focuses on a phone conversation between Davis and Laurie Fine recorded in 2002. Fine's attorneys say the tape was doctored and heavily edited before it aired on ESPN last November.

The lawsuit alleges that through its publication of the recording, and other reporting, that ESPN damaged Laurie Fine's reputation by falsely stating that she witnessed and did nothing to stop sexual abuse, and that she had committed adultery by having sex with Davis and others.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified punitive damages.
