UTICA, N.Y. -- After months of negotiations, the Utica Teachers Association has reached a tentative agreement for their new contracts with the Utica City School District.

The two parties reached a deal Tuesday night in their last possible meeting before the end of the school year. They have been negotiating for most of the spring over the loss of 217 jobs, wage freezes and teacher evaluations.

Wage freezes were taken off the table when negotiations failed before the public budget vote in May. But the teacher evaluation agreement could allow the district to keep $3.8 million of aid money and return dozens of teachers' jobs.

Union officials say they plan to vote on the deal next Wednesday.
