MANLIUS, N.Y. -- Manlius' swan pond will be a popular destination for the next few days as the swan eggs are starting to hatch.
Three, possibly four, of six eggs that were laid last month have already hatched and according to the mayor, all appear to be healthy.
You may recall, back in April, several swan eggs were destroyed after a Jamesville man allegedly hopped the fence and stole the eggs two weeks before they were about to hatch.
Community members formed a Swan Pond Watch Group in response and have been looking out for the eggs since day one.
"The Swan Patrol has been marvelous. The volunteers number over 33 and they're going to stay in position until the cygnets get a little bit bigger and stronger," said Village of Manlius Mayor Mark-Paul Serafin.
The mayor says the mother swan, Faye, should come off the nest for the first time Tuesday when the sun comes out. At that point, they'll know for sure how many eggs have hatched.
