Upon further review, young jockey Keiber Coa did suffer a hand injury when he fell from his horse, Riverdance Rock, in the sixth race Saturday.
Coa appeared to be OK after the accident, but later complained of pain in his hand. X-rays revealed a fracture and he will have his hand in cast for five to six weeks, NYRA officials said.
Riverdance Rock was on the lead turning into the stretch on the inner turf course, but bolted toward the outside. Coa, the son of retired jockey Eibar Coa, came off the horse and landed on his chest away from the other runners behind him. The horse was caught by outriders and had no apparent injuries.
