SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse's Department of Public Works has received several bid proposals as they look to change out the soon to be obsolete parking pay stations.

The company that operates the data network that allows the nearly 300 parking meters to offer credit card payments is planning to end its service.

Last month, the common council agreed to contract the stations out for bidding under conditions that the new company guarantees maintenance for the systems to avoid technological problems in the future.

So far, the department has received five bids that are currently under review.

The department is working with the current pay station vendor to ensure meters are able to accept credit cards during this process, but still encourages drivers to keep coins on-hand in case of a credit card shutdown.
