CORTLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- One person is dead following a crash in Cortland County. Sheriff's deputies say it happened around 3:30 p.m. Monday on Route 221 near Clarks Corners Road in the Town of Lapeer.

Authorities say the driver of a car lost control on a curve due to bad weather and crossed the center line, hitting a panel truck. The driver of the car was taken to Cortland Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The passenger of the car was taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Binghamton with serious injuries.

No one in the truck was injured.

The names of the driver and passenger are being withheld at this time pending family notification.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
