OWEGO, N.Y. -- The Owego community continues to mourn the loss of a fallen firefighter.

Captain Matthew Porcari died while fighting a fire in Newark Valley Monday evening. Another firefighter, Lt. Daniel Gavin, was also injured and has been released from the hospital.

Flags outside the Owego Fire Department were at half-mast Wednesday and a sign in front of the building expressed the department's sympathies. A wreath and photos from Tuesday night's candlelight vigil remain next to the firefighter's fountain in the village.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.

Funeral arrangements for Captain Pocari will be held this weekend.

The procession from the school to the funeral home will be restricted to family members and members of the Owego FD and invited agencies only. All other agencies are asked to remain at the school for the reception.
